Sandall spent a total of eight months in France. His date of deployment was 15 December 1916.
De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour 1914 - 1924:
Capt., 229th Siege Battery, R.G.A., 2nd s. of the late Frederick Sandall (d. 6 Feb. 1917), by his wife, Emerentia Maria Petronella, dau. of Professor Schneither; b. Dulwich, London, S.E. 11 July, 1882; educ. Forest Hill House School (Rev. Ryder Bird, M.A.); was employed at Lloyd's Shipping Register; joined the R.N.A.S in the spring of 1915; gazetted 2nd Lieut. R.G.A July 1916, and Capt. Dec. 1916; served with the Expeditionary force in France and Flanders from that month, and died 23 July, 1917, from wounds received in action the previous day.
Sandall's commanding officer wrote: 'The men who brought him in when he was wounded were full of admiration for his fine courage, as he never made a moan the whole time, and even thanked them each separately for their trouble".
