The HELMEPA-Lloyd's Register Foundation Campaign moves to Marmari and Karystos

Aligning with the opening of the new school year, the activities of HELMEPA's "Educational Community and Public Awareness Campaign on the Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences" move to South Evia, and specifically to the towns of Marmari and Karystos, from 26 September to 6 October 2017.

The HELMEPA-Lloyd's Register Foundation Campaign Exhibition

This initiative is supported by Lloyd's Register Foundation and has already been carried out in 24 Greek towns and cities since 2011, mobilising more than 25,000 students and 1,750 teachers. Besides raising awareness among schoolchildren and teachers of the Greek periphery on the themes of the Campaign, the aim of this initiative is also to inspire children to learn more about science, engineering and new technologies in the service of the environment and humanity.

The activities of the Campaign will be carried out under the auspices of the Municipality of Karystos and the Environmental Exhibition will be hosted at the Cultural Center of Marmari. The opening of the Exhibition will take place on Tuesday 26 September, at 12.00 and it will remain open daily for schools from 09.00 to 13.00.

In cooperation with the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of Evia, HELMEPA will transport students of local Primary and High Schools on the Campaign's expenses. Students will be informed by HELMEPA's scientific staff about the importance of the sea for the preservation of life on Earth, the primary threats to the marine environment and recent data for life in the ocean depths and advances in marine sciences and research.

Finally, a 'train-the-trainer' Seminar for Teachers titled "The marine environment and us: ensuring a sustainable future" is scheduled to take place on 4th October in Karystos, while other voluntary actions will also take place in cooperation with the Municipality of Karystos and local stakeholders.
