Call for proposals on structural integrity and systems performance.

The National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC) has issued its first open research call. The call is open to all PhD awarding institutions with research areas related to those recently identified in the recommendation of the Lloyd's Register Foundation's Foresight review in structural integrity and systems performance:

  • safety of additive manufactured parts
  • advancing the state of the art to maximise safety
  • whole-system approaches to demonstrate safety and integrity
  • data-centric engineering
  • minimising the risks associated with maintenance and inspection.

The Foundation encourages industry and academia to work together to come up with innovative ideas to solve the challenges on which the research call is based.

The PhD proposals will be peer reviewed to ensure that they represent research excellence and those that will have the greatest impact on enhancing safety for the benefit of the community. We expect to announce the outcomes in April 2016.

To find out more about the research call please go to http://www.nsirc.co.uk/funding/?entryid53=3057464. The closing date is 19 February 2016.

The NSIRC initiative is part of the grant awarded by the Lloyd's Register Foundation to the Structural Integrity Research foundation (SIRF). SIRF is an industrially led collaboration conducting industrially relevant research in structural integrity.
