Distributed ledgers for engineered systems: hype or hope?

Many engineered systems rely on data for their safe and reliable operation - aircraft and motor vehicles, rail networks, pharmaceutical and food supply chains, and other critical infrastructure. Complex integrated systems rely on interoperability of subsystems and the processing of multi-source data. Issues such as data theft, corruption and falsification of sensor data and falsification of information present serious threats to the dependability and safety of these systems.

How can distributed ledgers help us? It is widely believed that distributed ledgers and blockchains hold great promise in financial services. This free event explores their use in engineered systems and launches the Insight report on distributed ledger technologies, commissioned by Lloyd’s Register Foundation and The Alan Turing Institute.
