The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees, which is responsible for setting the Foundation’s strategy and for ensuring it fulfils its objectives – delivering public benefit – and for ensuring good governance. The Foundation Chief Executive, Richard Clegg, is responsible to the Board for the operation of the Foundation.

Thomas Thune Andersen, Chairman
Thomas is the Chairman of the Lloyd’s Register Foundation and Chairman of Lloyd’s Register Group Ltd. Thomas, a former Member of the Board for the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group with almost 32 years in the maritime and energy sectors, was appointed to the Board of the former Lloyd’s Register in June 2010. Thomas is Chairman of Dong Energy A/S, Senior Independent Director of Petrofac, Vice Chairman of VKR Holding, the parent group of Velux and Non-Executive Director of BW Offshore Limited.
Professor Richard Clegg, Foundation Chief Executive
Richard joined Lloyd’s Register (LR) in 2010 as Global Nuclear Director for the Energy business. He brings a wealth of experience from the nuclear sector and has worked in industry, academia and government in both the civil and defence sectors. Before joining LR, Richard was the Managing Director of the UK's National Nuclear Centre of Excellence. His other posts include Chief Scientist and Board Director at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) and he was the founding Director of the Dalton Nuclear Institute at The University of Manchester. Richard worked for nearly 20 years for British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) where he left as the Corporate Director of Science. His technical background is in radioactive waste disposal and environmental modelling.
